The Globe at Hay, Hay-on-Wye, HR3 5BG. Doors open 1.30pm. Bar.
The sultry and hypnotic sounds of the samba are the basis for an exploration of rhythm, culture and groove as we recreate the legendary dance form. We’ll build on the most basic patterns and simple instruments, and stretch your rhythmic abilities as far as you feel comfortable.
Tickets: tba
Tickets, when the box office opens shortly, will also be available from the Hay Tourist Bureau until Friday, 29 August and at the door if still available (cash or card).
The beauty of samba is that there’s a place for everyone. If all you want to do is shake a chocalho or slam down a solid surdo beat, you can do that – or you can tackle the technical intricacies of the cabasa, pandeiro or repenique.
And if those words mean nothing to you now, don’t worry – they certainly will by the end of this hands on, feet down, spirits up, 90 minutes of fun and learning.
No percussive ability is needed, just a carefree attitude and a sense of fun.
Earplugs will be provided, but do bring your own if you have them!
